Dog Beds For Arthritis to Manage Pain
What is Arthritis in Dogs?
Arthritis in dogs is an incurable and painful disease. Arthritis affects humans as well. It mainly affects the mobilising joints and eventually causes severe discomfort in dogs.
In general Arthritis in dogs have a few stages:
- The dog’s joints start to degenerate
- The pain caused by Arthritis decreases the dog’s will to move
- Because of the lack of movement, the muscles tissue becomes weaker
- The dog’s body compensate for the pain by posture change which elevates the pain
- The dog’s brain becomes more aware of the pain and increases the release of pain receptors which in turn aggravates the pain.
Can an Orthopaedic Bed Help My Dog’s Arthritis?
Whilst Orthopeadic dog beds will not sure your dog’s Arthritis, they can certainly assist with managing its pain.
In order to ensure you select the correct dog bed for your specific dog, make sure to follow these guidelines:
- Avoid sailor’s style dog beds (yeah they exist!)
- Make sure you place your dog’s bed in an area where it has enough room to line itself and stretch
- If your dog is not tall, make sure you pick a lower dog bed so he can go in and out of it easily
- Memory foam type of beds are the most recommended ones
- Make sure there are no obstacles in front of your dog’s bed as it may impact its ability to get in and out of the orthopaedic dog bed
Unfortunately, you will need to keep in mind that Arthritis is incurable. Sadly that means that there is no dog bed or any other solution that can fix or reverse this condition.
